Pressure is on the Kaizer Chiefs management to get it right in the forthcoming transfer window in their bid to turn the club’s fortune around.
The last nine seasons have been filled with tears, especially for the fans who have seen their team crumble. They were once among the best teams in the country and the continent at large, but their 10th finish in the 2023/24 Premier Soccer League underlined the struggles they have been facing.
Apart from appointing coaches with no success record – like Arthur Zwane and his successor Molefi Ntseki, the Glamour Boys have at times not gotten it right on signing the playing unit. Last season, they brought on board players who did not deliver as anticipated.
It is not the first time that has happened. Below is a list of players who are deemed the worst Kaizer Chiefs signings made by the Black and Gold in recent years. Have a look at some players who flopped at Naturena.
Mphela had shone at Mamelodi Sundowns under the tutorial of Pitso Mosimane scoring 48 goals in the 116 matches he played for the Brazilians.
Having played for Jomo Cosmos, Strasbourg, Reims, and SuperSport United, Amakhosi expected Mphela to deliver. He, however, lasted at the club for a season and left having played just 15 games with three goals under his belt.
The custodian was given a chance at Amakhosi after his heroics for Carrara Kicks especially in the Nedbank Cup against top sides.
He was given a chance in the second leg of the 2009 MTN8 semi-final game against Cape Town Spurs (formally known as Ajax Cape Town), but his blunders were costly, and the game ended 3-3 with the latter advancing 4-3 in aggregate.
