It was a very intense NBA search, but they looked deeply into a winning organization to hire their new head coach and they are very pleased with their guy. The Cleveland Cavaliers have reached an agreement with Kenny Atkinson to become their next head coach, sources have reported.

Atkinson has won the battle against other candidates, that included James Borrego in the final interview round with the front office on the Cavs. Reports indicate that the owners and general manager believe his work as a coach leading the Nets where he had Caris LeVert and Jarrett Allenunder his command has been decisive in the final call to choose a new leader for the organization.

The Cavaliers management fully trusts in Atkinson’s potential to get the most out of his young assets, especially Evan Mobley who aims to extend his rookie contract this summer. In four official seasons as an NBA head coach, he has a record of 118 wins and 190 losses.

Kenny Atkinson was serving as an assistant coach in the Golden State Warriors, being Steve Kerr’s right-hand man. At 58 years old and with extensive experience on the NBA benches with 4 years as a head coach and 12 as an assistant, Atkinson will have two important players under his command for the Cavaliers whom he previously coached in the Nets. They are Jarrett Allen and Caris LeVert.
