Mamelodi Sundowns defender Mosa Lebusa has made remarks suggesting that Orlando Pirates might be daydreaming to entertain thoughts that they can get to Masandawana’s level of competitiveness.
The Brazilians won a record-extending seventh-straight Premier Soccer League title to assert their dominance in domestic football.
But with Orlando Pirates appearing to have made some strides towards catching up, Lebusa dismisses the Buccaneers.
“I mean, they have been saying that for quite some seasons, and here we are,” Lebusa told iDiski Times.
“But I feel they have a good team, and we just saw what happened now, but I’m not sure if they are on the same level as us in terms of the mental capacity of our desires, what we want to achieve.
“But we are ready for whatever they bring to us,” added Lebusa.
“But I think our competition is ourselves, you know, every season we work hard to be better than we were the previous season.”
What gives Pirates hopes of breaking Sundowns’ dominance is how they performed last season.
They beat the Brazilians in the finals of the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup which could help them feel they can challenge Sundowns next season.
Also, finishing the season as PSL runners-up after a last-minute push to remove Stellenbosch from the second spot could make Pirates believe.
