After a slightly down year in 2023 by his standards, Philadelphia Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts is reportedly embracing the changes the team implemented on offense this offseason.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Hurts has worked closely with new Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore to determine the best course that would help the team achieve success in 2024, and the signal-caller hasn’t been shy about letting his voice be heard.
“I’m told the Eagles have spent a lot of time this offseason taking the old offense, Nick Sirianni’s system last year that Jalen Hurts is used to, mixing it with Kellen Moore’s principles, put it all in a pot with some gumbo and seeing what works and what Jalen Hurts is comfortable with,” Fowler said on Sunday’s episode of SportsCenter. “I’m told Hurts has done a good job this offseason of being vocal and taking ownership of the plays he likes, the plays he doesn’t.”
Hurts threw for career-highs of 3,858 yards and 23 touchdowns in 2023, but he also threw a career-high 15 interceptions, the third-highest total in the league. The Eagles started the year with a 10-1 record but finished at 11-6 and were eliminated from the playoffs in the NFC Wild Card Round.
The disappointing finish helped Philadelphia reevaluate how it operates on both sides of the ball, and Fowler noted that the addition of Moore has taken some pressure off of Sirianni while giving him a chance to focus on the team as a whole.
“Nick Sirianni has really trusted the process, trusted his new veteran playcaller to handle a lot of things. Even though he’s an offensive-minded head coach, he’s not micromanaging everything,” Fowler said. “So, they’re getting to work on it.”
