Stanley Nwabali had a massive season for both club and country which increased his market value and created a long list of suitors for his services.

After helping Nigeria reach the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final where they narrowly lost to the hosts Ivory Coast, the custodian played a crucial role as Chippa reached the Nedbank Cup semi-final – but lost to Orlando Pirates, and kept a total of 12 clean sheets across all competitions.

Kaizer Chiefs have been heavily linked with a move for the custodian in their bid to strengthen the goalkeeping department.

And now, Chippa United’s goalkeeping coach Sean Louw has confirmed the 27-year-old will not be at the club next season.

“On physical hard copy paper, I don’t know how many offers he has received, but verbally, he has around 10 or even 12 offers. He is definitely not coming back to Chippa next season,” the goalkeepers’ trainer told FarPost.

“When [Nwabali] arrived at Chippa, he wasn’t very proficient with his footwork, unable to play from the back. However, he has improved his footwork significantly.”

Nwabali has in the past stated he has no specific preference for a move but would like to remain in the Premier Soccer League.

However, Louw believes a move abroad will be better for the Super Eagle, “I don’t know if he is going to make a move within South Africa, but my advice to him was, ‘please go overseas.’

“I have made him understand that football is a business, and he is a brand. He is not just a player. His brand needs to extend to the other side of the world.”
