Coventry City has said it has sold a record number of season tickets by surpassing 20,000 sales.Last month, chairman Doug King said the club would freeze the price for the 2024-25 season and “suck up the cost pressures”.

With two months before the new season starts, the club has now reported it had beaten its previous record of 19,424.Officials said it was “an amazing achievement”.Speaking last month, Mr King, who became sole owner of the Championship club last year, said prices were being frozen in the hope of encouraging more fans to go to games.

There will also be changes to family zone season tickets with the introduction of a ticket exchange system to increase capacity in that area.Additionally, 2,732 seats will be converted into safe standing areas for next season. The club’s cheaper purchasing option for season tickets ends at 10:00 BST on 19 June.

Stoke have also brought in two, with goalkeeper Viktor Johansson joining from Rotherham United after the Potters triggered a relegation release clause believed to be just under £1m. The 25-year-old has established himself as one of the leading goalkeepers in the Championship in the last couple of years and ends a long wait for the Potters to have a number one of their own, having relied heavily on the loan market.

Ben Gibson, aged 31, meanwhile, joins from Norwich, who he helped into the play-off places in the season just ended. The left-footed centre-back is a free agent after coming to the end of his contract at Carrow Road.

Business has been slow elsewhere in the country, with only one other Championship club making two incomings so far.

Oxford United, promoted from League One, have also brought in two signings in so far. Keeper Jacob Knightbridge, aged 20, has signed from West Ham while midfielder Will Vaulks, aged 30, has rejected the offer of a deal at Sheffield Wednesday to sign a “long-term contract” under Des Buckingham.
