Mosimane’s name has been persistently linked to the head coach role at Kaizer Chiefs and he’s indicated that there’s been interest, but the club aren’t actively pursuing a deal. This is via Farpost. Mosimane has recently finished a post with Abha in the Saudi Pro League where, unfortunately, his team was relegated. The three-time CAF Champions League winner believes Chiefs must return to continental competition to establish themselves as a power again.
“Everywhere I go, everybody would ask me. But I’m a professional. I will not use that to put Kaizer Chiefs under stress over these things. It is not fair, because we don’t know what is happening, what are they thinking and what is their vision,” said Mosimane.
“Let’s give them a chance,” he urged, adding, “They will show you the plan; I mean, they are working on it – they are a big club.”
Pitso believes a long-term vision at Chiefs is key and the end goal must be success in continental competitions.
“It’s not about the league only here. It’s not about winning the Champions League only. Step by step, show confidence and go into the group stages of the Confederation Cup. You have to be somewhere to move. But it needs a plan. It needs time.”
“What’s the vision – you want to go to the Club World Cup and touch that R1 billion? It’s a process,” he remarked.
Mosimane cited English giants Arsenal as a recent example. The Gunners have recently returned to the esteemed UEFA Champions League and finished as runners-up in the last two Premier League campaigns after a long spell without elite continental football. That affected not only their bottom line but also their reputation. Mosimane enjoys a good relationship with Chiefs, as his son plays for the juniors.
“We have a good relationship with them. We talk anytime—we speak on the phone,” he confirmed. “If there was bad blood, he would not be there, am I right? So, there’s no problem.”
