Carlos Alcaraz, a self-confessed Real Madrid fan, dared to give his prediction about this evening’s Champions League final in which Carlo Ancelotti’s team will take on Borussia Dortmund at Wembley. In post-game press conference after his victory against Sebastian Korda at Roland Garros, the Murcian was reminded that two years ago, when he also beat the American in Paris, Los Blancos were proclaimed European champions after beating Liverpool in the final.
“Well, then I have already done my job. Now it’s their turn,” he said, answering a question from La COPE radio. “We are going to be cheering for Madrid to the fullest, that’s for sure. In 2022, I think, I don’t remember who the MVP was, but well, Vinicius scored the winner. I am going to take a wild shot. I think Vinicius is going to have a great game and will be key. So my guess is that… I don’t know the result. But Madrid going to win”.
After some coaxing and encouragement, Alcaraz finally felt the urge to give a result: “I guess Borussia is going to attack, they are going to score, so 2-1, 2-1 for Madrid.”
As for his own aims at 2024 Roland Garros, Alcaraz is heading into Round 4 of the Men’s singles after seeing off Sebastian Korda 4-6, 6-7 (5-7), 3-6. “It was a really good match. I think I played really, really well. Much better than the previous match. So that’s something I really wanted to do – just to get into the rallies, play good points… start to feel comfortable on court.
