Manchester Unitedsuffered an incredible implosion to almost miss out on the FA Cup Final as Coventry City staged a three-goal comeback before Erik Ten Hag’s side managed to dump them out on penalties to set up a blockbuster match-up against Manchester Cityin a 2023 repeat

Marcus Rashford’s side came into the game as heavy favourites being at the right end of the Premier League table, whilst Coventry Cityare promotion-hopefuls in the league below and they seemed to be proving the bookies right.

That was before one of the greatest ever sports stories unfolded as the side with a fraction of the budget staged a remarkable rally to stun the Red Devils with three goals in 25 minutes.

Scott McTominayhad opened the scoring in the 23rd minute before Manchester Unitedgained firm control on the stroke of half-time when Harry Maguirerose high from a corner to head home in front of the Coventry fans, who were preparing for heartbreak.

Then just after half-time, Bruno Fernandeslooked to have killed the tie off when he made it 3-0 with 30 minutes left but the game was far from over. It’s the FA Cup after all.

Coventry seemed to have given their fans something harmless to cheer about when Ellis Simmspulled one back in the 71st minute, a consolation and souvenir but then just eight minutes later, Callum O’Hare’s deflected strike turned the fame on its head and United had their backs against the wall.

Coventry then got the fruits of their onslaught with a late, last-gasp leveller from the penalty spot as Haji Wright to fired home to send his side’s loyal fans into utter delirium as Ten Hag sat looking meek on the bench.

The Sky Blues then thought they’d won it at the death as Simms fired across Andre Onana into the far corner only for VAR to chalk the goal off for offside to send everyone captivated by the game to penalties.
