The injury-riddled Gold Coast Titans have shocked the NRL world with a stunning 36-34 win over the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium.
Titans halfback Tom Weaver delivered one of the plays of the season with a try-saving tackle on Corey Oates just five metres out from the try line when the Broncos were looking ominous. Just two plays later, Broncos star Ezra Mam knocked the ball on with just under four minutes left.
The game was sealed when Broncos centre Josiah Karapani dropped the ball with 48 seconds left in what was the home side’s last attacking chance.
Keano Kini was the best player on the field, with the livewire fullback having a hand in three tries and proving such a handful for the Broncos defence all afternoon.
Broncos star Reece Walsh put to bed any doubts over his knee issue with a sensational first half, however he was quiet in the second forty, while Ezra Mam staked a final claim for Origin selection.
Mam, who is competing with Cowboys star Tom Dearden for the Maroons No. 6 jersey, did brilliantly well to reel in a Titans grubber and racing 90 metres to score for a try that put the Broncos up 30-22 in the second half.
Mam had a mixed day, missing nine tackles in addition to the forementioned crucial error close to the Titans line as the Broncos were attempting a match-winning try.
However, the Titans would score the next three tries to lead 36-30 with nine minutes to play, including a try to Alofiana Khan-Pereira to put them ahead for the first time all afternoon.
