The Miami Hurricanes football program is ‘all in’ with trying to win big in 2024.

This 2024 season is year three of the Mario Cristobal era and with talented and productive quarterback transfer Cam Ward leading the offense, UM is in ‘win now’ mode.

Miami attacked the opportunity to make plenty of changes to its roster since via the spring transfer portal window as UM added talented players at key positions of need like Oregon State running back transfer Damien Martinez, Houston wide receiver transfer Sam Brown, Michigan State defensive tackle transfer Simeon Barrow, and defensive end transfer Tyler Baron.

What type of impact have these new additions made in terms of the outlook for the 2024 season? Let’s turn to one of the best rankings analytics in college football in Bill Connelly’s ESPN SP+.

The preseason SP+ rankings are based on three primary factors: 1). Returning production, 2). Recent recruiting, and 3). Results from the previous four seasons.

SP+ is a tempo and opponent adjusted measure of college football efficiency. It is a predictive measure of the most sustainable and predictable aspects of football. The preseason SP+ rankings should be viewed as offseason power rankings based on the information that is able to be gathered to date.

In the initial preseason SP+ rankings, Miami ranked No. 21 overall. After the spring portal additions of players like Martinez and Brown (Baron’s transfer addition happened after the latest SP+ release), the Hurricanes jumped up to No. 19 overall.
