Zach Wilson has admitted his departure from the New York Jets left him feeling “bittersweet” after joining the Denver Broncos for the 2024 season. The No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft has so far failed to live up to expectations after a disappointing spell with the Jets, but his new start in Colorado could help him make up for lost time.
The Jets traded Wilson to the Broncos in the offseason to give the 24-year-old a fresh start after his early promise did not pan out as they had hoped.
When given the opportunity to play, Wilson flattered to deceive with 23 touchdowns compared to 25 interceptions in 34 games (33 starts). The Jets also have some blame to carry for struggling to give Wilson the tools he needed to improve amid their offensive line issues.
Speaking for the first time since his trade in April, Wilson admitted he was left with mixed emotions after his departure, but he is now looking forward to the future with the Broncos.
“Obviously, there’s bittersweet moments in everything,” Wilson said on Thursday. “I was grateful for my experiences there and the guys. I miss the guys out there and everything too.
“But at the same time, a fresh start is good. I’m excited to attack a new challenge.”
The Jets ultimately traded Wilson and took a sixth-round pick in exchange for a seventh-round selection. However, he is taking the positives from his stint in New York.
