One of the more wild draft lotteries in recent memory had the Charlotte Hornets drop to the 6th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
The Atlanta Hawks and Houston Rockets jumped up from the 10th and 9th slots respectively to pick in the top four. The Spurs landed in the top four again after entering the lottery in the number five spot. Those three teams getting their lottery combinations drawn meant the Hornets dropped three spots down to the 6th overall pick.
The 6th pick hasn’t really popped off in recent seasons, which means it’s due to have a come up. That’s how probabilities work, after all. Damian Lillard is the only All Star selected in that slot in the last 20-plus years. Other notable selections include Bennedict Mathurin, Buddy Hield, and Marcus Smart. Other other notable selections for different reasons include Jarrett Culver, Mo Bamba, and Jan Vesely. The Hornets have never had the 6th overall pick, so we’re going to witness history. Time to fire up the YouTube scouting reports and the mock drafts.
The Atlanta Hawks ended up with the 1st overall pick after entering the day with the 10th best odds to win the lottery. It’ll be interesting to see how they handle that pick given the state of flux the organization is in on the court.
