Knicks fans are fuming after Ja Rule kissed the Larry O’Brien trophy in a social media clip Wednesday.
The rapper was swiftly accused of ‘cursing’ the team – currently in the conference semifinals – who have their sights set on winning the franchise’s first NBA championship since 1973. The currently lead the Pacers 2-0 in the Eastern Conference in the semifinals.
‘What would I be without my Larry?’ the Mesmerize hitmaker said in a video posted to the NBA’s Instagram page, before lifting up the trophy and kissing it.
He went on, ‘Champions only baby, let’s go Knicks.’
‘Yeaaa knicks cursed themselves,’ one fan commented
After Ja Rule’s performance was panned by critics, he wrote on X at the time, ‘You just jinx yourself talking to the GOD this way… your CURSED NOW!!! You won’t win a championship for the next 30 years.’
The chart-topper’s longtime nemesis, 50 Cent, later said he was attempting to lift the Timberwolves’ curse in an Instagram video.
‘We had a curse! Somebody f**ked up, and they let Ja Rule perform at halftime,’ he said of the team, who partnered with his Sire Spirits liquor brand last year.
‘Now, what we’re gonna do is take the curse off!’
In response, Ja Rule said he ‘extended’ the team’s curse.
