DAYTEVILLE, Arkansas Multiple reports state that former Florida Atlantic guard Johnell Davis has committed to the Razorbacks, led by coach John Calipari. AllHogs has not independently verified the Davis camp’s statement, which has not yet been made public. This anticipated commitment comes a few days after he traveled to Arkansas over the weekend for a covert official visit

Over the previous two seasons, Florida Atlantic’s basketball program has risen to unprecedented heights, largely due to Davis. Every program will be closely watched as the O make back-to-back tournament appearances and advance to the Final Four in 2023.

For the Owls this season, the 2024 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year averaged over 18 points, six rebounds, and three assists per game. During the regular season, he led FAU to victories over Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, Charleston, and Arizona, shooting a career-high 41% from beyond the arc.

The 6-foot-4 guard made nearly half of his field goal attempts this season, connecting on 52% of his shots at the rim. In addition to inviting physicality in the paint, he finishes by maintaining an upright posture.

Davis is at ease shooting in both directions, whether he is sprinting without the ball in his hands or driving up the court. With a 69% adjusted field goal rating, the 22-year-old placed in the top three percent of college basketball players in catch-and-shoot scenarios the previous season.

Based on recruiting and transfer rankings, Arkansas’s new roster has already established itself as one of the greatest in school history. With three 5-star true freshmen on the wing and the addition of the No. 1 transfer left, who is ranked No. 2 overall in the 247sports portal rankings, the backcourt is extremely deep. Calipari did not spend much time experimenting with the portal while he was a student at Kentucky. Not only did two of the players decide not to remain in Lexington, but three players declined to accompany him to Fayetteville. Calipari said at his inaugural press conference that he will continue to bring in freshmen, but he also mentioned the need to add more experience to each position.
