He has donated his entire $108 million AFL signing bonus to charity.

Just weeks after putting pen to paper on what is being described as one of the biggest contracts in league history, the 22 year old South Australian native made the quiet, powerful decision to give away every dollar of his bonus. This act of selflessness goes far beyond anything ever seen in the game.

This isn’t about me, Anderson said in an exclusive statement released through the club. I grew up knowing how lucky I was just to play footy. To be given this opportunity, and this kind of money, it never felt like mine. It felt like a chance to do something that matters, something that lasts longer than any goal, any win, or any medal.

Anderson, who joined Collingwood in 2025 and quickly became a fan favourite for his relentless work ethic, fearless tackling, and never say die attitude, had already won respect for his effort on the field. But this choice has elevated him from star player to national inspiration.

When asked why he would give away a sum of money that could secure his family’s future for generations, he spoke simply and from the heart. I’ve had people help me every step of the way, coaches, family, friends, strangers who gave me a chance. I know what it’s like to need a hand. This money will build schools, fund medical research, support kids who don’t have the same chances I did, and help communities that need it most. That’s the only thing that makes sense to me.

The full $108 million will be split across four key areas. Youth and education programs will build and fund schools, sports academies, and scholarship opportunities for children in regional and disadvantaged areas across Australia. Health and medical work will support hospitals, life saving research, and mental health services, causes Anderson says are close to his heart. Indigenous community initiatives will back sport, culture, and education projects led by Indigenous groups nationwide. Disaster relief and community aid will provide emergency support and long term recovery for regions hit by floods, fires, or hardship.

Every dollar is being distributed through independent, trusted organisations. Anderson insisted that no money be held back for fees or delays, and that every cent goes exactly where it is needed most.

Collingwood chief executive Craig Kelly summed up the feeling of everyone at the club and across the league. We talk about role models, about what it means to be a Magpie, about values, and then Angus comes along and shows us what it really looks like. This isn’t just great news for Collingwood, or for football. This is the best news we could ever hope for. He hasn’t just won games for us. He has won hearts across the country. What he has done transcends sport entirely.

AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon called the move unprecedented. In a world where so much is about money, fame, and self promotion, Angus Anderson has reminded us all what matters most, Dillon said. He has set a standard that will last forever. This is Australian sport at its absolute best.

Fans have shared their thoughts in their thousands across social media, calling him the greatest Magpie of all time, a true hero, and proof that football can change lives, not just the ones playing it.

On the field, Angus Anderson is tough, fast, and fearless. Off it, he is quiet, humble, and deeply kind. He grew up playing football in the suburbs of Adelaide, working odd jobs to help his family, and dreaming only of pulling on the black and white guernsey. Today, he has achieved far more than that.

I still just love playing footy, he smiled. This doesn’t change who I am. I still want to win every game, run my heart out, and make this club proud. But now, I know every time I step onto the MCG, I’m playing for something bigger than the scoreboard. That’s the best feeling in the world.

For Collingwood, for the AFL, and for every young person who looks up to their heroes, Angus Anderson has given us something priceless: hope.

This isn’t just a story about money, or a contract, or a bonus. It is a story about character, about kindness, and about understanding that true success isn’t measured in what you keep, but in what you give away.

As the headlines say, this is the best news we could hope for. Angus Anderson, a champion on the field, a legend forever.

The best way to use what you have is to help those who have less, Angus Anderson.

{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

1
52
post-9819","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized","tag-collingwood-football

THIS IS THE BEST NEWS WE COULD HOPE FOR: Collingwood Football midfielder Angus Anderson, has shocked the AFL world with a selfless act that transcends the game of AFL.
