The fixture, which ended in a 2–1 victory for Hibernian, sparked widespread debate among fans, pundits, and former officials, with many questioning key calls that appeared to influence the outcome.

Sources close to the investigation claim UEFA’s disciplinary panel examined match footage, officiating reports, VAR communications, and additional evidence before reaching its verdict. The alleged findings reportedly pointed to serious breaches of officiating standards, prompting the unprecedented sanction.

“The integrity of football remains our highest priority,” a source familiar with the proceedings was quoted as saying. “Any actions that undermine trust in the game will be met with the strongest possible response.”

The reported punishment includes a permanent ban from refereeing at all levels under UEFA jurisdiction and a substantial financial penalty. If confirmed, it would rank among the most severe disciplinary actions ever taken against a match official in European football.

The decision has generated intense reactions across the football world. Celtic supporters have welcomed the news, arguing that justice has been served following what they viewed as a series of unfair decisions. Meanwhile, others have urged caution, stressing the importance of due process and transparency regarding the investigation’s findings.

Neither McDermid nor his representatives had issued an official statement at the time of publication. Scottish football authorities are also yet to comment on the reports.

As football fans await further details, the case is expected to reignite discussions about refereeing standards, VAR accountability, and the measures required to protect the integrity of the sport.

<div style="font-size: 0px; height: 0px; line-height: 0px; margin: 0; padding: 0; clear:
