The controversy reportedly centered on disputed penalty calls, alleged inconsistencies in disciplinary decisions, and multiple VAR interventions that sparked intense debate among players, coaches, and supporters.

The reports claim that UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin approved the strongest disciplinary measures available under the organization’s regulations, resulting in Letexier’s permanent removal from UEFA competitions. If true, such a decision would represent one of the most severe sanctions ever imposed on a top-level European referee.

Fans and football analysts have remained divided. Some argue that officiating errors significantly influenced the outcome of the final and warranted strong action. Others have questioned whether a lifetime ban would be a proportionate response, noting the immense pressure and complexity involved in refereeing elite football matches.

Neither UEFA nor Letexier’s representatives have officially confirmed the reports at the time of writing. Football observers are awaiting a formal statement from UEFA to clarify the situation and address the growing speculation.

Should the allegations prove accurate, the case would likely become one of the most significant refereeing controversies in modern European football, raising broader questions about accountability, VAR usage, and the standards expected of match officials at the highest level.

European football has
