\nHe explained that doubts first began to surface earlier this year, after old rumours resurfaced and questions from family members made him suspicious. Quietly, privately, and with a heavy heart, he arranged a DNA test \u2014 something he said he never, ever thought he would need to do. The results came back two weeks ago, and confirmed 100% what he had feared but hoped was not true: he is not her father.<\/p>\n

But worse was to come. As he pressed for the truth, as he confronted his wife, and as he uncovered old messages and conversations he had never seen before, the full horror of the betrayal was revealed.

\nShearer said the betrayal is almost too much to bear \u2014 not just the loss of his marriage, or the shock over his daughter, but the loss of trust in the two people he loved and respected most in the world.
\n\u201cI gave everything to this woman. I was faithful every single day. I worked hard, I provided, I protected, I loved her with my whole heart. I was never unfaithful, never lied, never let her down. And this is how I was repaid. I feel sick. I feel empty. I feel like I don\u2019t know what is real anymore. I looked at Chloe all these years and thought she was my whole world \u2014 and I love her just as much now, don\u2019t get me wrong \u2014 but to find out it was all built on a lie\u2026 it breaks you. It breaks you completely.\u201d
\nThe news has sent shockwaves through Newcastle, the Premier League, and the entire country. Teammates, past and present, have spoken of their absolute disbelief, saying no one had any idea, no one suspected anything, and that they cannot believe such a cruel and calculated betrayal could happen to a man as honest, loyal and decent as Alan Shearer.
