Parkes joined the Hammers from Queens Park Rangers in 1979, with the club describing the transfer as a world-record fee for a goalkeeper at the time.

His time in East London became particularly memorable during the famous 1980 FA Cup triumph, when West Ham defeated Arsenal 1–0 in the final. Parkes was also an important member of the celebrated West Ham side that finished third in the top flight in 1985/86.

Now, in this fictional scenario, head coach Nuno Espírito Santo has supposedly decided that Parkes’ experience, leadership and deep understanding of West Ham’s traditions could be invaluable to the club’s next generations

A potential senior coaching role would represent a remarkable new chapter for Parkes. Rather than returning to the pitch, his responsibility would be to pass his knowledge to today’s players and help strengthen the mentality and standards within the squad.

West Ham supporters would undoubtedly welcome the idea with open arms. Parkes remains strongly associated with the club’s history, having even won the Hammer of the Year award in 1981.

West Ham United

For many fans, seeing one of the club’s legendary goalkeepers back inside the West Ham environment would be more than simply another coaching appointment — it would represent a connection between the club’s glorious past and its future.

{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

1
60
post-19244","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized","tag-west-ham-united

THESE IS THE BEST NEWS WE COULD HOPE FOR: In a moment that has sent shockwaves of joy through the valley and The team broader community West Ham united head coach Nuno Espírito Santo has officially confirmed that legendary Phil Parkes returning to the organisation _ this time not as a player but as their new senior C….see more - topupsport

<meta name="description" content="In a sensational development that would send waves of excitement through the West Ham United community, legendary former goal....
