Aberdeen later thought they had found an equaliser when Kevin Nisbet headed the ball into the net, but VAR intervened and the goal was disallowed for a foul in the build-up.

MacDermid’s performance subsequently became a major talking point, with debate surrounding the penalty decision, Aberdeen’s late appeal and the decision to overturn Nisbet’s equaliser. Scottish football coverage has described some of the referee’s calls as controversial.

The sensational report claims UEFA has allegedly launched a full review of the officiating and is examining whether the decisions represented serious breaches of refereeing standards.

If such punishment were actually imposed, it would represent an extraordinary development for Scottish football. A permanent ban would effectively bring MacDermid’s refereeing career to an immediate end and could trigger a wider debate about VAR, referee accountability and the disciplinary procedures governing match officials.

However, there is currently no verified evidence that UEFA has imposed a permanent ban or a record fine on MacDermid. Available match records confirm that he officiated Aberdeen’s 0–1 defeat to Rangers, but the alleged UEFA punishment should therefore be treated as unconfirmed.

{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

1
121
post-19093","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized","tag-rangers-fc

BREAKING NEWS: The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) through president Aleksander Čeferin has reportedly imposed the highest possible fine and a permanent ban on referee Matthew MacDermid following the 0–1 controversial match between Aberdeen vs Rangers due to significant…..see more - topupsport

<meta name="description" content="Football has been thrown into fresh controversy following the dramatic Aberdeen 0–1 Rangers encounter at Pittodrie, with a....
