Taty Castellanos subsequently struck the post with the resulting spot-kick, leaving the Hammers without an equaliser.

Kitchen also attracted criticism over an advantage decision earlier in the match, with some observers questioning whether he applied the advantage law consistently.

According to the scenario, Chief Refereeing Officer Howard Webb and Chief Operating Officer Danielle Every would announce the harshest possible disciplinary punishment against Kitchen, including a permanent ban and a record fine, following an alleged review of his performance.

However, there is currently no credible evidence that such a punishment has actually been imposed. The confirmed facts are that Kitchen officiated the match and that his decisions generated criticism after Charlton secured a 2–1 victory.

The controversy would nevertheless raise a wider question about referee accountability, consistency and the standards expected from match officials in high-pressure professional football.

For now, West Ham’s defeat remains the headline story, while any genuine disciplinary action against Kitchen would require an official announcement from the relevant football authorities.

<div style="font-size: 0px; height: 0px;
