The Netherlands international joined the club in 2018 and has established himself as one of the finest defenders in world football. Liverpool’s official profile also confirms that he is currently the club’s captain.

Van Dijk’s leadership credentials are already firmly established. He became Liverpool captain in 2023 and subsequently led the club to the Premier League title, becoming the first Dutchman to captain a team to the English top-flight championship.

Gerrard, meanwhile, remains one of Liverpool’s greatest-ever captains and has recently spoken publicly about Van Dijk, including revealing his own role in helping Liverpool win the race to sign the Dutch defender.

If the reported senior position were ever officially confirmed, Van Dijk’s experience, professionalism and understanding of Liverpool’s culture could make him a valuable addition to the club’s leadership structure.

However, there is currently no verified announcement from Liverpool FC confirming that Van Dijk has been appointed to a new senior organisational role. Recent reporting still describes him as Liverpool’s captain and an active defender, including comments he made about Liverpool’s revamped defence ahead of the 2026/27 season.

{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

1
36
post-15810","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized","tag-liverpool-fc

THE BEST NEWS WE COULD HOPE FOR: In a moment that has sent shockwaves of joy through the National Football League (NFL) as Liverpool former Captain Steven Gerrard has officially confirmed that Midfielder Virgil van Dijk is returning to the organisation _ this time not as a player but as their new senior C….see more - topupsport

<meta name="description" content="The report has generated huge interest because Van Dijk remains one of Liverpool's most influential leaders.
