PHOENIX – At Phoenix Municipal Stadium on Friday night, Sun Devil Baseball (4-2, 0-0) defeated Ohio State (3-3, 0-0) with a thrilling 14-4 victory. After scoring four runs in the second inning, the Sun Devils never looked back, hitting 17 hits while striking out 17 Buckeye batters.

In the bottom of the second inning, Isaiah Jackson launched the team’s fourth home run of the year, sparking the scoring after ASU was defeated in the first. With his tenth hit of the season, the dependable sophomore tied Harris Williams and Williamsfor third place in hits with 11. Williams hit four home runs and drove in two RBIs in his five at-bats tonight. Tobias batted in four runs tonight and hit a home run with two outs in the sixth inning.

Thomas Burns, a rookie pitcher, earned his second Friday night start and struck out eight batters in spite of giving up a home run to the first batter he faced. Burns allowed four hits, two runs, and one walk in 4.1 innings on 91 pitches. After giving up a double in the fifth inning, Matt Cornelius entered and exited the game. In 2.1 innings, he added five strikeouts of his own and gave up just one more hit. With four strikeouts and no hits allowed in the final two innings, rookie Wyatt Halvorson came through big.
Isaiah Jackson’s fourth home run of the season opened the Sun Devils’ scoring spree in the second inning. Then came a triple by Ethan Mendoza, his first extra base hit of the year.

Ryan Campos added another RBI to his season total of 12, which is second on the team, after recording four last night. The last four games have produced all 12 of the RBIs.
Campos’s active reached base streak, which dates back to last season, was extended to 16 games with his walk in the first inning. Now, in 95 career games, Campos has reached base in 86 of them (90.5%).

Isaiah Jackson, a sophomore center fielder, took back the team lead with his fourth home run of the year. Having hit a home run in four of the first six games of the season, he has 14 RBIs, which is noteworthy considering that he didn’t get his 13th RBI until the 29th game of the previous season.
