The Detroit Lions made another roster move on Thursday, indicating the team is ready to activate players from the injured reserve list.

Unfortunately the Lions have not yet officially activated anyone.Anthony Firkser was sacked on Thursday.

Firsker has played just two offensive snaps in the last two games after being signed to the practice squad to replace the injured Brock Wright. The veteran Firkser has played on special teams for a long time.

Wright remains out with a hip injury, but Firsker’s opt-out is a sign that the Lions aren’t too worried about not having a backup tight end for their Week 18 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings.

After also waiving Isaiah Buggs earlier this week, the Lions now have two spots available on the 53-man roster.

Based on what coach Dan Campbell indicated this week, those spots will be filled by DT Alim McNeill and DB C.J. Gardner Johnson. Both can be activated via I.R. and I practiced this week.

The Lions also returned a defenseman to the practice squad. EDGE Raymond Johnson is back after being cut from the Lions’ practice squad earlier this fall.

Heading into the final week of the regular season, the Detroit Lions needed to free up some roster space, and they did so by releasing former Super Bowl champion Bruce Irvin from the team training.

The former first-round pick signed with the Lions on November 14. This happened because Detroit was looking for rushing help.

Irvin didn’t play much during his time with the team, but coach Dan Cambell definitely seemed to like Irvin’s experienced leadership. Campbell admitted releasing Irvin this week wasn’t an easy decision.

“It was tough,” Campbell said via the Detroit Free Press. “Bruce, what a professional.

I mean he is, it was a blessing to have him here.

I mean, he just brings a whole different perspective. It’s as professional as possible.

I mean, just the way he goes about his business, everything about him.Irvin made his Lions debut in a 33–28 win over the Saints in Week 13, where he recorded one sack.

Over the next four weeks, Irvin played only two games and was used sparingly, which he apparently didn’t like very much.

“We talked last week, we talked again [Tuesday], we had a long conversation and so at this point we haven’t quite bonded,” Campbell said.

“And he has things to do too, and so it’s difficult. It’s just one of them, it wouldn’t work at this point.

But he’s an absolute stud.”Based on his reaction on social media, there appears to be no hard feelings between Irvin regarding the release
