The Boston Celtics’ and Boston Bruins’ home arena, TD Garden, saw criticism over the weekend when its new bag policy went into force.
When the Bruins played the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday, the policy went into effect. It prohibited spectators from entering the arena with bags bigger than 6 inches by 4 inches by 1.5 inches. Furthermore forbidden from the arena are any backpacks. Although allowed, a bag purchased from Boston ProShop may be searched.
On Sunday, the arena reminded patrons of the policy. The arena announced on its X account that “new @EvolvTechnology security screening will be implemented at TD Garden effective Feb. 17.” In order to expedite the admissions process, we kindly advise visitors not to carry luggage. No bag bigger than 6″ x 4″ x 1.5″ will be accepted.
Writer Ty Anderson of 98.5 The Bruins The Boston Herald pointed out that the Sports Hub posted about the widespread confusion regarding the new rules from Saturday’s game.
Anderson posted on X, “Walking into the arena yesterday, this caused a MASSIVE issue.” There were several ushers informing folks that they couldn’t even admit “yes” kinds. Many irate passengers were informed that they may check their bags for an additional $15.
Women are significantly impacted by the bag limits, as noted by female hockey players and NHL media.
“Here’s why you might see me walking around TD double fisting tampons and epi pens,” Kendra Middleton of Sports Hub posted on X.
“I apologize, but these kinds of things are absurd. Is that not prejudice? Sara Civian of Bleacher Report writes.”That’s insane???” NESN host Meredith Gorman wrote. Let folks use clear bags at the very least.”
The request for comment from Fox News Digital was not immediately answered by TD Garden.
The mission statement of Evolv Technology is that it is the “leading security technology company pioneering AI-based weapons screening to create safer experiences.”
The business claims that venues for performing arts, sports stadiums, amusement parks, casinos, hospitals, and places of worship have all utilized its screening technology.
Glen Thornborouhg, president of TD Garden and COO of the Bruins, stated in a news release on Tuesday that “TD Garden is committed to providing a best-in-class experience for our guests, and safety and security is paramount.” “Evolv’s innovative technology allows us to do just that, while also streamlining the entry process and minimizing wait times.”
