Hugo Lloris left Tottenham to play for Los Angeles FC in Major League Soccer.

After signing from Lyon in August 2012, the former France number one, 37, played for the North London team for more than 11 years, recording 151 clean sheets in 447 appearances across all competitions.

Before leaving his position as captain of Les Bleus in January of last year, Lloris achieved great success with the team as well. He will now carry on his illustrious career in California.

John Thorrington, general manager and co-president of LAFC, stated: “Hugo is a proven winner and possibly the most successful custodian of his generation.

“We are overjoyed that Hugo has decided to continue his legendary career with LAFC.

“He offers unmatched leadership expertise at the top

“I would like to thank Tottenham for their collaboration, and I join all of Los Angeles in extending a warm welcome to Hugo, his wife Maine, and their three children to LAFC.”

In a statement of their own, Spurs honoured Lloris, referring to the French custodian as one of the team’s “greatest servants”.

“We wish Hugo and his family all the best for the future,” the North London club continued.

“On Sunday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, during halftime of the team’s match against Bournemouth, we will gather to personally thank Hugo.

“If you’re attending the game, please remain in your seat at half-time as we celebrate the career of one of our modern-day greats.”

Since Spurs’ 6-1 loss to Newcastle in April of last year, Lloris had not played for the team. With Ange Postecoglou starting in goal for summer acquisition , Lloris’s departure was certain.

He will now try to make the most of his golden years with LAFC, where he qualified for the playoffs last season after finishing third in the Western Conference.

The Californians did win the prestigious cup for the first time in 2022, but they ultimately lost 2-1 to Columbus Crew in the MLS Cup final earlier this month.
