Hull City A.F.C. has officially approved a major renovation of the MKM Stadium, with a project valued at $80.6 million (approximately £65 million) set to begin in early 2026. Club officials describe the plans as “transformative,” aimed at modernizing the stadium, expanding fan facilities, and supporting the club’s long-term ambitions both on and off the pitch.

The renovation will see the stadium’s capacity increased to over 30,000, alongside upgraded premium lounges, family zones, and improved accessibility. Fans can also expect state-of-the-art technology enhancements including video boards, Wi-Fi, and broadcast facilities, as well as environmentally-friendly features such as solar panels and LED lighting to reduce the stadium’s carbon footprint.

Reactions among supporters have been mixed. Many welcome the modernization, while some express concerns about ticket pricing, preserving the stadium’s traditional atmosphere, and potential disruptions during construction. Club CEO James Barker emphasized that the project represents “a new era for Hull City” that honors its history while building for the future.

Local officials have praised the announcement, highlighting the economic benefits to the city and the region. Councillor Lisa Armstrong said, “A thriving sports venue brings communities together and strengthens Hull’s reputation as a dynamic hub.” With construction planned to begin in early 2026 and phased upgrades aimed at minimizing disruption, Hull City fans are now eagerly anticipating the stadium’s transformation.
