The Maryport player sustained a muscle injury during the Trotters’ 1-0 victory over Cheltenham Town on Tuesday night.
The former Carlisle United player is among those being evaluated by the promotion-chasing visitors ahead of their trip this weekend.
“Demps is more neuronal; we’re encouraged. We’ll have to wait and see how things settle before making a decision,” manager Ian Evatt told The Bolton News.
This season, Dempsey has made 27 appearances and scored two goals for Bolton, who are now third.
He came off the bench on Tuesday but developed the problem in the final minutes of the match against the Robins.
Bolton will also be without Randell Williams and George Thomason, who are injured and suspended.
Gethin Jones, another ex-Blue, will not be playing for the Trotters this weekend.
He is still on international service with Australia, who are in the Asian Cup knockout stages.
Former United player Jack Iredale is expected to start when he returns to Brunton Park this Saturday.
Ian Evatt could be down to just 16 first-team players for Saturday’s trip to Carlisle United after Randell Williams and Kyle Dempsey sustained injuries, while George Thomason received his 10th league yellow card of the season, resulting in a two-game ban.
Carlos Mendes Gomes is returning from the Ivory Coast, where he represented Guinea Bissau at the AFCON, and is set to arrive on Thursday.
Evatt is hoping Dempsey recovers from a muscular injury sustained in the final few minutes of Tuesday night’s game – but with Williams now out for three or four weeks and Thomason missing Carlisle and the home fixture against Barnsley, the pressure is on to find fresh recruits.
“It isn’t ideal,” the manager explained of his injury predicament. “It’s Randell’s hamstring; we don’t think it’s a terrible one, but it’s important enough to cause him to miss the same as Will (Forrester).
