A fascinating day in the professional football calendar is always Black Monday. We witness NFL head coaches being fired and losing their jobs.
Although their division opponents celebrate the holiday, the Philadelphia Eagles don’t always.
This time, a respected man in the league and one of Philly’s former assistants is among the fatalities.
The Washington Commanders’ decision to terminate Ron Rivera was among the first news items to be reported on during Black Monday in 2024.
The change was anticipated, yet nobody is talking about this. For our Eagles, this is terrible news on their decision.
After a terrible season, the Commanders are improving, which is something that no Eagles supporter wants to see.
To put it bluntly, Dan Snyder was a terrible owner who was also a terrible person. Although his sale of the Washington Commanders was a victory for humanity, it was a severe setback for the NFC East teams.
It was going to be a joke every year for as long as that person owned the team. Unfortunately, the Commanders must now be treated seriously given their newfound ownership.
That benefits Washington. That’s bad news for the Dallas Cowboys, who are even more despised than the New York Giants, and the Birds.
Objectively speaking, Ron Rivera was a lousy head coach. Riverboat Ron got his nickname from his tendency to gamble and take big chances when playing video games.
That was not the situation when he worked for Washington. He was a cowardly coach who brought nothing worthwhile to that team. For us, it was fantastic, but he’s now gone. Oh my, how we will miss him.
Josh Harris is leading a new ownership group in Washington that has enormous sums of money to spend. Making the Commanders a model franchise and investing extensively in their next hire are their priorities. That will make the position of head coach very appealing.
They will have an advantage over other clubs that require a new head coach (such as the Philadelphia Eagles) because their season is already done.
Furthermore, Rivera tanked so well that the Commanders will get the second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. This implies that they may end up getting Drake Maye (UNC) or Caleb Williams (USC), two of the best quarterback prospects.
