The Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan and the 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks were interviewed by the Falcons two more times, one day after they finished their interview with Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald.
The Falcons had scheduled an interview with Mike Macdonald, the defensive coordinator of the Ravens, one day ago. I’ll start with Callahan, who isn’t as intriguing to me. His work with Joe Burrow in Cincinnati, where he helped create one of the league’s most prolific offences, is attracting attention. With Jake Browning, the Bengals offence didn’t collapse even after Burrow suffered a serious injury.
But when the season came to an end, it did start to wane. Burrow’s development could be attributed in part to him, which should intrigue the Falcons, who haven’t developed a quarterback since Matt Ryan.conducted two further interviews with defensive coordinator Steve Wilks of the 49ers and offensive coordinator Brian Callahan of the Bengals.
In 2010, he began as a coaching assistant with the Broncos. Over the course of the following five years, he rose through the ranks at Denver, finishing as an offensive assistant before taking a job as the quarterbacks coach for the Lions in Detroit. He made a brief stay in Las Vegas in 2019 while working under the same role before joining the Bengals as their offensive coordinator.
Despite the Bengals’ offensive prowess over the past two seasons, a large portion of that may be ascribed to the team’s talent. Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd should receive a bulk of the credit, not Callahan. Though it looks awfully similar to the Broncos employing Nathanial Hackett a year ago, clearly he deserves some.
Not the offensive coordinator, who didn’t even call plays, but Aaron Rodgers and Matt LaFleur were the main reasons the Packers offence was so successful. Coordinators who don’t really call the offence should be avoided.
But with Steve Wilks, that isn’t the case. Falcons supporters should be familiar with the current 49ers defensive coordinator. Over the course of five seasons, he served as the defensive coordinator, associate head coach, and coach of the defensive backs for the Panthers from 2012 to 2017.
After that, he was hired as head coach by the Cardinals in 2018, however he was in an unwinnable circumstance and only lasted one season. In actuality, Wilks was never going to be the head coach in the desert for very long because he got thoroughly screwed.
